Couples Therapy & Marriage Counseling
Are you thinking about getting help for your relationship?
Your relationship problems end here.
The relationship between you and your partner is critically important in maintaining a healthy and fulfilling life. It should provide a “safe haven” which will allow you to feel grounded and more equipped to handle the ups and downs of life.
However, communication styles, experiences from our own family of origin, parenthood, finances, sexual discrepancies, and just everyday life my interfere and prevent these relationships from thriving. Furthermore, if your relationship has been impacted by infidelity or another betrayal or trust, you are dealing with a major crisis that may not heal on its own without professional guidance.
Relationship dynamics are complex! Therefore, experience, training, skill, and feeling like it’s a good fit, all matter when you and your partner choose a therapist to help you.
YOU NO LONGER HAVE TO TRY TO FIX YOUR RELATIONSHIP ON YOUR OWN
Couples reach out for help for a variety of reasons: not communicating, fighting over little things, ignoring big issues, resenting each other, mistrusting each other, discovering infidelity, trying to figure out if they should divorce, feeling distant and disconnected.
You need results! Learn strategies to build a stronger marriage (or committed relationship), practical tools, restored hope and trust, and a fresh perspective on your relationship.
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING MATTERS
It’s disheartening to hear some of the experiences couples have with couples therapists. Time and money wasted and you leave feeling more frustrated and hopeless than you started. “Seeing couples” is not the same thing as knowing how to work with effectively with couples. Not every therapist has the skill set or capability to work with the unique interactions that couples bring to the session.
Don’t play around with your marriage by picking a random or untrained therapist. A therapist with specialized training and experience in couples counseling is essential for success. You also need a “marriage friendly” therapist who will not give up on your relationship and simply recommend divorce.
EMOTIONALLY FOCUSED THERAPY (EFT): THE ROADMAP THAT GETS YOU BOTH BACK ON TRACK
Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) is a proven and effective treatment for distressed relationships. This is backed by extensive research EFT helps couples get back to their loving feelings, foster a strong connection, and feel both secure and happy in their relationship.
EFT works by helping couples to strengthen their attachment bond and stop poor communication patterns with each other. Having this strong connection and secure attachment means several things: you feel safe together, you know you’re the most important person to each other, you’re more flexible in problem-solving, more skilled at communication, and use the relationship as a supportive resource.
EFT gets right to the core of the matter. There is no (or minimal) “homework” as you will be making these changes right during your session. As a model of couples therapy, EFT is considered the “gold standard” as no other form of couple therapy has surpassed current research (including comparisons to other methods).
There are specific points of progress seen in EFT that determine how long the therapy will last. You won’t need to be in counseling any longer than you need to be. EFT is generally a shorter-term model (4 – 8 months average) with long-lasting results.
THE GOTTMAN METHOD OF COUPLES THERAPY
A tremendous amount of research comes from The Gottman Institute on what makes relationships succeed or fail. From this research, The Gottman Method of couples therapy was developed. This approach emphasizes several concepts such as having a foundation of friendship, trust, commitment, and a shared philosophy of your goals as a couple. The Gottman Method is at times integrated along with EFT to effectively treat couples.
